I think the relationship Brian has with Emmett is fascinating. Despite the image he projects exteriorly, I think Emmett is the toughest of the Gang. He has a very strong sense of self, and a very strong sense of what he perceives as right and wrong. I agree with you in that I think Brian admires that in him. One of my favourite scenes in the whole series is when Brian tells Emmett to leave Ted, and then takes him onto the dance floor. ("We make such a lovely couple. Both tall...") I love that scene for all it says about their relationship. I've explored it a few times in my writing (particularly in one story), as you may have done as well. I also just think Emmett is sweet, and a lovely person.
